We're heading up to Dinner Plain this weekend for some meetings about our wedding, which is only a few weeks away now. When we go away, we have to decide how to manage the dogs - take them with us, get a dog sitter or put them in a kennel?
Given the amount of time this weekend without an enclosed, secure back yard, with lots of meetings and site scouting to do, we elected to use a kennel this weekend. For J, only one place will do.
Dishlickers has large pens for day time use, as well as appropriate sleeping quarters at night. Their fences are top quality, which is such a concern with escape artists like Bolo to house. They're happy to accommodate our dogs two to a pen, two pens side by side, so the dogs feel like the pack is still together... Well, mostly. And, Dishlickers are highly experienced owners of arctic breeds themselves, so they have a great skill set for independent, pack orientated, double coated dogs.
This morning, I have the dogs an extra cuddle each before I headed off to work. When J got home, he loaded them up and set off through Melbourne's awful Friday night traffic to deliver them to their weekend getaway. He snapped the following pics of them exploring their pens.
Ishka (foreground) and Frankie (background) are in one pen together. Ishka loves playing rough with the younger boys, but since her ACL repairs last year, we've been trying to keep her resting quietly. Frankie has never been keen on play fighting, probably because Bolo fights dirty. Once he's checked the pen thoroughly for any food, Frankie'll find a comfy spot and settle down. Eventually Ishka will join him for some snuggle company.
Here are Czar (left) and Bolo (right) in the neighboring pen. Bolo will be very happy to burn off some energy racing along the fence lines with dogs in neighboring pens, and finding incredibly awkward positions to sprawl in. Czar will probably be the least happy to be left at Dishlickers, so he'll do some pacing and tell the whole neighborhood how he's been abandoned to "die, ay, ay, ay!" Fortunately Dishlickers is a big property and the neighbours will be some distance away.
Its going to be very weird at home tonight, without sixteen little feet padding around!
